2008 -2009 Training Programs in Clinical Hypnosis
American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) Approved Curriculum:
Introductory Course in Hypnosis (20 hours) October 4th, 5th, November 1, 2008
This course is required for Certification by ASCH. The focus will be on the theory of hypnosis and hypnotic phenomena. Students will learn and practice basic hypnotic techniques, and will develop an understanding of basic hypnotic styles, including the use of Permissive and Ericksonian approaches. The format will be lecture, discussion, demonstration and practice. (ASCH approved – 20 credits)
3 day Course (9:00 am–5:30 pm each day)

- Theories of hypnosis
- Hypnotic phenomena and their therapeutic usefulness
- Treatment preparation
- Induction & deepening techniques
- Use of metaphor
- Formulation of hypnotic suggestion
- The utilization principle
- Techniques for hypnotic exploration: An introduction to hypnoprojectives and ideomotor signaling
- Ego-strengthening
- Self-hypnosis
Intermediate Course in Hypnosis (20 hours) November 2nd, December 6, 7, 2008
The focus will be on clinical applications of hypnosis and on the learning of advanced hypnotic theory and techniques. Topics will include exploratory techniques, the use of various types of suggestion and ego state work. Treatment applications will include work with anxiety and panic disorders, depression, habit control, and an introduction to trauma work. The format will be lecture, discussion, demonstration and practice. (ASCH approved – 20 credits)

- Imaginal rehearsal
- Ego state therapy
- Advanced strategies for hypnotic exploration
- Hypnotic approaches for treating:
- Anxiety, phobia, and panic disorders
- Depression
- Habit control
- Introduction to treating PTSD
Advanced Consultation Groups
(Locations for Consultation Groups may vary. Please call CATCH at 212.531.1322 for class location)
Consultation Groups focus on the students’ practical concerns regarding application of course material to clinical work. There are two types of consultation groups:
- Theme-centered Consultation Groups include presentation of didactic
material on specific topics and case discussion.
- General Consultation Groups include didactic teaching based on the questions, concerns, and topics raised by students in the session regarding their hypnotic work with patients.
